Colour Accuracy

Every print we produce follows a calibrated colour workflow. Getting colour right takes care at both ends: how we print, and how you prepare your file.

How we handle colour

Our Canon printer uses 12 ink colours, which reproduces a wider gamut than standard 4-colour CMYK printing. This means more accurate skin tones, richer shadows, and smoother gradients across the full range of Hahnemühle and Colourbyte papers.

We print from ICC colour profiles matched to each paper. Every paper we offer has its own profile, so colour rendering is optimised for the specific surface your print lands on.

What you can do

The biggest variable in colour accuracy is your screen. A print will only match your expectations if your monitor is showing you accurate colour in the first place.

  • Calibrate your monitor with a hardware calibrator if you can — even an entry-level device makes a noticeable difference
  • Work in Adobe RGB or sRGB colour space. We accept both and handle the conversion for you
  • Avoid judging colour on a phone or laptop screen in a brightly lit room
  • If colour matching is critical to you, order a small test print before committing to a full run

Soft proofing

If you work in Photoshop or Lightroom, you can soft proof your image using the ICC profile for your chosen paper. This simulates how the print will look before you order.

Get in touch and we'll send you the profile for the paper you're using.

File formats

Send your files as JPEG, TIFF, or PDF at 300dpi at final print size. We accept both RGB and CMYK files, though our workflow converts CMYK to RGB before printing, since our 12-ink system produces better results from RGB source files.

Still not sure?

If colour matching is critical to your project — edition runs, gallery exhibitions, portfolio reproductions — get in touch before ordering. We can arrange a test print or talk through the best approach for what you need.
