About giclée printing
What is a giclée print?
A giclée is an inkjet print made on an archival-quality printer using pigment inks rather than dyes, on acid-free paper. Pigment sits on the surface as solid particles and resists fading far longer than dye. Ours are rated for 200 years under normal display conditions.
How long does a giclée print last?
Our prints use 12-colour pigment inks on acid-free archival papers, rated for 200 years of lightfastness under normal display conditions — away from direct sunlight and behind UV-protective glass. Framing behind museum glass extends this further.
What papers do you use?
We stock four papers: Colourbyte Smooth 280gsm, Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm, Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth 305gsm, and Hahnemühle Baryta Gloss Photo 350gsm. We also print on Hahnemühle Cezanne 430gsm canvas. See our paper guide for detail on which suits your work.
Ordering and files
Is there a minimum order?
No. One print is fine. Orders of five or more get 10% off, and ten or more get 20% off, applied automatically at checkout.
What resolution does my file need to be?
300dpi at final print size is ideal, and 150dpi is the practical minimum. As a rough guide, an A2 print needs around 7,000 × 5,000 pixels. If your file is smaller, send it anyway and we will tell you how it will look before printing.
How do I send my file?
Upload directly on the product page (up to 2GB), or paste a WeTransfer, Dropbox or Google Drive link at checkout. If you are local to Wokingham you can also bring a USB drive to the studio.
Will the print match what I see on screen?
Close, but not identical. A screen emits light and paper reflects it, so some very saturated colours cannot be reproduced exactly. We print with colour management throughout and check every job by eye. For large or repeat orders, a test print first is the safest route.
Do you keep my file?
Yes, so reprints need no re-uploading. We do not use, sell or display your work. You keep all rights to it.
Can you print work I did not create?
Only with the copyright holder's written permission. By ordering you confirm you have the right to reproduce the image. We reserve the right to decline any order where copyright ownership is unclear.
Turnaround and delivery
What is your turnaround time?
Most orders are printed and despatched within 3–5 working days. During busy periods, particularly November and December, please allow up to 7 working days. If you need something urgently, contact us before ordering.
Do you offer free delivery?
Yes — free UK delivery on flat-packed orders (A4 to A2) over £100. A1 and A0 prints go by Parcelforce and are always charged, as the tube and courier cost is significant. See our delivery page for full rates.
Can I collect from the studio?
Yes, free of charge from either Wokingham location. We will email you when your order is ready — usually 3–5 working days from ordering.
Services
Can you scan my original artwork?
Yes, in-house on our flatbed scanner. Most print studios send scanning out or ask you to photograph your work. We do it ourselves, which means we can check the scan against the original and reprint from it the same day. Find out more about scanning.
Do you offer drop shipping?
Yes. We print, pack and ship direct to your customers with no R Young Art paperwork in the parcel. See how drop shipping works.
Can you frame my prints?
Yes — we are a working framing centre. We sell ready-made Nielsen aluminium frames, framed giclée prints assembled in-house, and bespoke framing for originals and prints of any size. See our framed prints or contact us for bespoke work.
